This Is Garden Food, Port St. Joe Florida

There is such a thing as a hidden gem and this restaurant is the gem of hidden gems. Unfortunately This Is Garden Food in Port St. Joe is also hidden so well that probably many locals don’t even know about it. Hopefully with word of mouth that will change.

THE GOOD: The charm of this restaurant exceeded our expectations. Walking through the door your thoughts immediately envision being in an eclectic eatery in a place such as Asheville North Carolina. It has everything to make even young urban dwellers feel connected to their favorite gathering spot if this were in a big city. Thankfully it is not because it’s perfect for Port St. Joe

I ordered the double cheeseburger which was so good that I had trouble remembering the last time a burger delighted me so much. It came with fresh cut French fries which were so incredibly good that I had trouble moving on to the burger. I simply could not get enough after the first bite. The dish was also accompanied by a fresh salad with a savory home made honey mustard dressing with the perfect amount of tartness. I could come back over and over again for their burgers, fries and salad

There is a nice selection of wine and we chose one of our favorites from Alexander Valley Vineyards.  A wonderful California Cabernet Sauvignon.

COULD USE IMPROVEMENT:  Originally my wife zeroed in on the Panini Grilled Vegetable sandwich on the menu and was disappointed to hear that it was not available today. Undeterred she went with plan B and ordered the Panini Tomato Mozzarella sandwich. Unfortunately, while the home made Panini was good, there was a very scant amount of tomato and cheese between the bread, making this basically a tasty Panini bread sandwich. Great flavor but in need of more filling. The saving grace was a heaping amount of that wonderful salad. She still wants to come back to try more.

We touched on location and the owners are well aware that if they were on the main downtown business strip they would have many more customers  It is located right across the street from Ace Hardware in an industrial setting next to a warehouse. Very easy to drive right by and miss but don’t let that deter you. It is well worth the visit. Finishing their website and finding ways to get the word out is a must
