Our second day in Marianna Florida brought us to Yamato Steak House of Japan. This Hibachi and Sushi restaurant peaked our interest despite only having a 3.5 star review on Yelp (4.5 on Google). This is obviously a take out favorite for the locals based on the high volume of orders being picked up at lunch time
THE GOOD: We ordered egg rolls as a appetizer and were impressed with the presentation and how freshly prepared they were. The rolls were piping hot and the outside had just the right amount of crunch to them. Obviously prepared fresh. This is not a sit down and watch your Hibachi being prepared in front of you restaurant but rather the Hibachi is prepared in the kitchen and brought to your table. I ordered the Filet Mignon and Shrimp combination. It came with a delicious salad with Ginger dressing, fried rice and vegetables. The medium rare steak was cooked to the perfect temperature as was the shrimp. The meal was plentiful, filling and prepared quickly which probably accounts for the take out crowd. My wife ordered the Snow Mountain Sushi Roll consisting of Shrimp Tempura topped with snow crab, crab stick and crunch. Overall she thought it was very good.
COULD USE IMPROVEMENT: For starters the very first impression was a lack of upkeep of the exterior. One of the lighted signs on the outside was completely broken out and in need of replacement. This combined with untrimmed bushes in the front, debris and grass (weeds) needing mowing. Our first thought was that this restaurant must be closed down. The Miso soup and Onion soup both were bland and unflavored. I had to hunt to find the tofu in my soup. All in all the food was average.
Recommendation: Just Okay
