Hurricane Charley’s Raw Bar & Grill, Punta Gorda Florida

If you are looking for a picturesque outdoor patio restaurant then Hurricane Charley’s is the place. It sits right on the Peace River just inside Charlotte Harbor. A brief history lesson: In 2004 a category 4 hurricane by the name of Charley took a direct bead on Punta Gorda and decimated this wonderful city. I know this first hand because back then I was a Florida police chief and I rotated a team of ten officers for a six week period to go and assist in the recovery. Seeing first hand the destruction left behind is a memory that I won’t forget.

THE GOOD:  Great view with a large outdoor patio setting. It has a very nice selection of menu items sure to satisfy an entire family that has varying tastes. They even have sushi if you so desire.

Service was very good and our server, Nicole, met our every need. We like when a server checks in with us asking if everything is satisfactory and even replenishes our drinks.

For an appetizer we ordered a half pound of steamed shrimp. The shrimp were nice and large as well as flavorful. Accompanied by a large lemon slice and hot drawn butter it was a great start. .

We both ordered the Ahi Tuna salad with sesame ginger dressing. The dressing was beyond tasty. The tuna was seared rare, just as we ordered it.  No complaints about the portion size of the tuna as there was so much we brought some home with us. The only immediate thing missing was some soy sauce for the tuna but that was quickly rectified by an ample supply at the outdoor service bar.

Did we mention dog friendly?  Our three legged Golden Retriever received warm attention and a prompt bowl of water as soon as we sat down.

COULD USE IMPROVEMENT: Nothing noted
