Take a step back in time and visit Penny’s Diner in Punta Gorda Florida, very nicely ordained with 50’s style table and chairs decor. Come early as Penny’s is a very popular spot, as was evident by a packed house with a waiting line. Don’t let that deter you as it was well worth the short wait.
THE GOOD: Quick service and friendly smiles. The staff was very adept at multitasking with smiles galore. We did not have to wait long to be greeted and served, even though all the tables were full. There is ample seating, including seats at the counter. In addition to our server we counted a total of four employees that came by to either refresh our coffee or check on us or deliver our food.
I ordered the steak and scrambled egg special accompanied by sliced tomatoes. The steak came medium as ordered and was nicely seasoned. The eggs were tasty and the sliced tomatoes were fresh.
My wife ordered the Greek omelette with additional mushrooms and onions, accompanied by a side cup of fresh fruit. The omelette was delicious and plentiful enough to take half of it home. The side of fresh fruit was very fresh and deliciously ripe.
COULD USE IMPROVEMENT: The Greek omelette should have contained gyro meat but it did not come with it. This was very quickly rectified once we were asked if everything was okay. Once a side of gyros was delivered the meat was moist, hot and delicious.
