Mamma’s Dixie Kitchen, Old Town Florida

You can tell what kind of place Mamma’s Dixie Kitchen in Old Town Florida (just down the road “apiece” from Chiefland) is by the pickup trucks parked in front.  A down home, non pretentious, home cooking restaurant.  If you are the snooty type then you don’t belong here.

THE GOOD:  Our server was a hoot. She had no qualms about talking back to difficult customers, which we enjoyed a chuckle over.  She was very pleasant to us, perhaps because we were pleasant to her.  Funny how that works.

We mentioned that Mamma’s was a non pretentious restaurant and being served our coffee in a styrofoam cup actually fits here.

Our food was actually quite good. I had the meat lovers omelette which came loaded with bacon, ham, sausage and cheese. This omelette came with a slight peppery kick to it which was quite tasty. After dissecting it a bit I found that it came from the sausage.  If we ever come back I will make sure that I order side of their delicious sausage.

My wife ordered the Suwannee River Bend omelette which came stuffed with mushrooms, onion, hickory smoked bacon and Swiss cheese.  She loved it noting that it’s not too often that omelettes come with Swiss cheese.

COULD USE IMPROVEMENT:  Nothing noted.  As mentioned above this is a down to earth country breakfast joint and their appeal to us may not appeal to others who find it beneath them to drink coffee from a styrofoam cup or be served their breakfast on a plastic plate.
