Finally, we found an amazing Chicago Hot Dog in our travels at Chicago Style Dogs and Beefs in Fort Walton Beach Florida.
THE GOOD: Put together perfectly with all the right ingredients, just like the Vienna chart. Chicago Hot Dog enthusiasts are almost cult like. The members of the Facebook group “hotdogchicagostyle” often argue about the proper placement of the “proper” condiments (see below). This hot dog was sheer perfection. It also came wrapped with a helping of fries just like back home. We also ordered an “Iltaco” brand tamale from the Chicago Tamale Company, again a Windy City favorite.
COULD USE IMPROVEMENT: We offer this as a totally constructive observation. We also ordered an Italian Beef with hot Giardiniera peppers. The thinly sliced beef itself was very tasty. The bread however was a soft doughy bread and not the hard crunchy French type bread that makes Chicago Italian beef sandwiches so amazing. Anyone who has had a Big Al’s or Portillo’s beef sandwich will know what we are saying.
A highly recommend for the hot dog.
